Hello, I’m a french master’s student in mechanical engineering departement at Universite Laval (Québec) and I would like to use your software for my work. My teacher told me to use a virtual machine to download linux (because I work on my own machine) and play with your software, but I have seen that : “This needs to be a real computer; the AR Sandbox does not work from inside a virtual machine.” and I am wondering why ? and if there is a way to open it from inside a virtual machine by modifying your code ?

    Thank you in advance

    Welcome to the forum.

The AR Sandbox need fast access to the video card and its 3D acceleration capabilities. Cross-OS containers add layers of data translation that slow hardware access. There may also be user permission problems across OSes.

If you already have a Kinect, it’s worth a try.

Another option is to dual boot into Linux to use the sandbox software.

Wikipedia looks to have a good overview in its “Multiboot” article.

There are also detailed guides around. I think https://itsfoss.com/guide-install-linux-mint-16-dual-boot-windows/ does a good job answering general questions before giving step-by-step instructions.
