Anyone have experience with LED or Laser projectors? I am building a sandbox that will sit in a fairly well-lit place. Not being familiar with projectors, should I be looking at a standard lamp with high lumens, or perhaps newer LED or Laser projectors?

One issue I have had is being able to calibrate it properly in a well lit environment. It seems that the Kinect sensor can’t seem to read the sand properly in daylight conditions. It could be because of the reflective quality of the type of sand I’m using and this might not be an issue for you. But it is something I would test before committing to an expensive build.

@phildawson I am not using an LED or laser projector and I can’t answer you directly.

Does “fairly well-lit” include direct or indirect sunlight? Sunlight may (as @robbo says) cause Kinect problems rather than projection issues. The Kinect is an infrared camera, so IR sources may drown out the Kinect light source.

To possibly avoid both visible and IR brightness, can you instead add a shade over the sandbox so that it is in a dimmer area?

For our outdoor sandbox use, I set up a canopy around the sandbox.
