    Hello,

I’m having problems installing an Nvidia 1650 on a Dell Optiplex 990 running Mint 18.1 Serena. If updating the BIOS doesn’t work, I think I’ll have to update Mint. However, Mint 19, which the instructions are currently written for, is nearing the end of its support life. It would make more sense to install the newest version of Mint. However, since the sandbox software is no longer being updated, can anyone confirm if any of the Mint 20 versions are compatible?

    AFAICT, you have two options:

    1) Nvidia 1650 might work with Linux Mint 19.

(Linux Mint 19 is based on Ubuntu 18.04.)

Do you plan to use the sandbox computer for anything other than the sandbox? If not, does it matter that there will not be OS updates? Unless and until there is a new sandbox release, LM 19 will continue to work.

    2) Use Linux Mint 21.

You will need to make changes to the standard Build-Ubuntu.sh to build Vrui on LM 21.

No, this computer is only for the sandbox. It probably doesn’t matter, but better to ask than assume when I don’t have the experience myself.

I’ve hit a snag updating the BIOS and will probably move on to installing Mint 19. With the problems I’ve been having I don’t want to introduce complexity by needing to modify Mint 21.

    Thank you.
